Yesterday, we talked about 5 common mistakes you don’t want to make in your email marketing. Now that you know what common mistakes to avoid, let’s talk about 3 ways you can grow your email list.
Add an opt-in for e-commerce orders
If you offer products for sale on your website, this is the best way to grow your email list. A customer who has made at least one purchase from you is most likely interested in receiving information from you. Since your emails will promote new products and sales, your current customers can receive the most benefit.
Embed a signup form on your website
If you don’t offer e-commerce or are a service provider, you can still use your website to grow your email list. You can embed a signup form into your website. Just remember to tell visitors what they will receive. You might say “Signup to learn about upcoming specials.” If the idea of adding code into your website seems a little daunting, there’s probably a plugin you can use to add the form to your website.
Have a way to signup at your point of sale
You should definitely have a way for customers to join your email list at your place of business. This can be something as simple as a paper registration form or an iPad with an app allowing your customers to subscribe. There are benefits to both. The paper form doesn’t need an internet connection, but it does mean that you will need to type each email into your system. The iPad subscribes users to your list immediately and it provides an opt-in time.
We’ve now talked about what mistakes you want to avoid in your email marketing and how you can create and grow your email list. Tomorrow we’ll cover some of the laws that govern what you can and cannot do as an email marketer.
