We’ve been busy making changes

Change is in the air at Oso Studio.  This weeks, we are celebrating our 1 year anniversary.  So this seems like an appropriate time to talk about some of the new changes we’re making based on what we’ve learned this past year.

I started doing freelance website design and development in 2008 and graphic design in 2004. Freelance design and development work was completely different than managing a digital marketing agency. When I was freelancing, typically I had one, maybe two projects going at a time. My clients were always local and we could meet to discuss drafts, prototypes, and training. That has all changed in the past year since forming Oso Studio.

Many of our clients are no longer local. One client that we recently worked with had stake holders in all four time zones of the continental US. So while a New York decision maker might reply to an email at 9am, it would be several hours later before the West Coast office even opened. This project was a wakeup call that our current method of client communication might not be the best. With a goal of unifying our project management and our communication, we have started using Basecamp.

When we start a new project, we will add each stake holder to Basecamp for email updates, project status, and file sharing.  Basecamp will keep everyone on the same page and we no more worrying about dropping someone from an email thread.

Our second big change comes to our development process. We started testing Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets (SASS) a few months ago to decrease prototype time.

Without becoming too technical, SASS definitely lives up to being Awesome. Using SASS on a couple of projects, we noticed a speed increase of 35% in develop a working prototype. I don’t know about you, but to me, that kind of speed is awesome!

Our third big change is the launch of our client portal.

The client portal provides clients with one-click access to Basecamp, billing, and support. Over the coming months, we will be adding more features to the portal. Already planned is our email marketing platform and a new billing solution.

These changes set us apart from other agencies by giving our clients more access to their projects. We still have a couple of new tools that we are going to be rolling out over the coming months to simplify our client’s lives further. Until next time. </post>
